One of the most heartwarming moments in breeding Golden Doodles is watching a proud father meet his offspring for the first time. Recently, we allowed Max a brief supervised visit with Luna and their seven beautiful puppies, and the gentle interaction was absolutely touching to witness.
Early Days: Max and Luna’s Puppies at One Week Old
Max and Luna’s litter of seven puppies is doing incredibly well in their first week of life. At this stage, the puppies are still in their neonatal period, spending most of their time sleeping and nursing from Luna. They’re gaining weight steadily, developing rapidly, and showing all the signs of healthy, thriving Golden Doodle puppies.
This week marks an important milestone: their eyes and ears will be opening soon, which is when the real fun begins. Once puppies can see and hear, their personalities start to emerge, and they become much more interactive with their environment and the people around them.
Why We Introduce Sires to Their Puppies Carefully

As experienced doodle breeders, we follow careful protocols when introducing the sire (father) to new litters. Max’s visit was brief and closely supervised, which is essential for several reasons:

- Mum’s comfort comes first: Luna needs to feel secure and unstressed during this critical bonding period with her puppies
- Puppy safety: Newborn puppies are delicate and need gentle interactions, even from their father
- Respecting natural instincts: Not all male dogs show paternal interest, so we watch carefully for appropriate behavior
- Reading body language: We carefully monitor all interactions to ensure both Luna and Max are relaxed and comfortable
Max showed wonderful, gentle curiosity about his puppies, which is exactly what we hope to see from a sire. His calm demeanor around the litter is one of the many reasons we chose him as a breeding dog—temperament is hereditary, and Max’s gentle nature is something we’re confident will pass to his offspring.
What Happens When Puppies’ Eyes and Ears Open?
Later this week, Max and Luna’s puppies will reach another exciting developmental milestone. When their eyes and ears open (typically around 10-14 days), the world transforms for them. Suddenly, they can:
- See their littermates and surroundings for the first time
- Hear sounds and begin recognizing voices
- Start responding to external stimuli
- Become more mobile and curious
- Begin early play behaviors with siblings
This is when puppy raising becomes even more engaging. We’ll start seeing individual personalities emerge, early play behaviors develop, and the wonderful temperaments inherited from both Max and Luna. The combination of Max’s gentle nature and Luna’s loving disposition creates puppies with exceptional family-friendly temperaments.
About Max: An Exceptional Sire
Max brings wonderful qualities to this litter. His calm temperament, excellent health clearances, and beautiful conformation make him an ideal breeding dog. When selecting a sire for Luna, we carefully considered genetic compatibility, temperament, and health to ensure we’re producing the highest quality Golden Doodles possible.
The brief, supervised visit with his puppies shows Max’s gentle nature—a trait we’re confident will be passed down to these seven little ones as they grow into loving family companions.
Following Puppy Culture Protocols
At Kingscote Doodles, we follow the Puppy Culture methodology, which emphasizes early neurological stimulation and appropriate socialization at every developmental stage. Max’s carefully managed introduction to his puppies is part of this approach—allowing the sire to meet his offspring in a controlled, positive way contributes to the puppies’ early experiences with stable, friendly adult dogs.
Over the coming weeks, Max and Luna’s puppies will experience a rich variety of stimuli, sounds, surfaces, and interactions designed to raise confident, well-adjusted dogs ready for their forever families.
