FAQ’s – Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – Golden Doodle Puppies. Also known as: Goldendoodles, Double Doodles, Ultimate Doodles.

Welcome to KingScote Doodle! If you’re considering bringing home a Golden Doodle puppy (also called Goldendoodle, Double Doodle, Ultimate Doodle, Golden Poo, Groodle, Teddy Bear Doodle, or Golden Poodle Mix), you likely have many questions. Below, we’ve compiled a comprehensive FAQ covering everything about these popular Doodle breeds.

1. What is a Golden Doodle (Goldendoodle)?

A Golden Doodle (also spelled Goldendoodle, and sometimes called Golden Poodle Mix, Groodle, or Curly Golden Retriever) is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. These dogs are beloved for their:

  • Hypoallergenic, low-shedding coats (thanks to Poodle genes)
  • Intelligent, friendly temperament
  • Versatility (great as family pets, therapy dogs, or service animals)

Other Doodle breed variations include:

  • Double Doodle (Golden Doodle + Labradoodle)
  • Ultimate Doodle (multi-generational Golden Doodle)
  • Mini Golden Doodle (smaller Poodle cross)
  • F1B Goldendoodle (75% Poodle, 25% Golden Retriever)
  • Australian Doodle (Australian Labradoodle mix)
  • Teddy Bear Goldendoodle (ultra-soft, plush coats)

Special Note About Our Australian Doodle Lineage

We’re proud to introduce Yogi Bear. Yogi is a full Australian Doodle stud dog and father to Myrtle, Evie and Nel’s current puppies. This special Australian Doodle lineage brings exceptional temperament and coat qualities to our breeding program.

2. Are Golden Doodles hypoallergenic?

While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, Golden Doodles are considered low-shedding due to their Poodle genetics. Their curly or wavy coats produce less dander, making them a great choice for allergy sufferers.

3. What sizes do Golden Doodles come in?

Golden Doodles come in three main sizes, depending on the Poodle parent:

  • Miniature Golden Doodle (7–16 kg)
  • Medium Golden Doodle (16–23 kg)
  • Standard Golden Doodle (23–41 kg)

At Kingscote Doodles, we specialise in breeding miniature and Medium Sized dogs.

4. What is the temperament of a Golden Doodle?

Golden Doodles are friendly, intelligent, and highly social. They thrive on human interaction, making them great family pets, therapy dogs, and companions. They are also easy to train due to their Poodle intelligence and Golden Retriever eagerness to please.

5. How much exercise does a Golden Doodle puppy need?

Golden Doodles are energetic dogs that require:

  • 30-60 minutes of daily exercise (walks, playtime, mental stimulation)
  • Interactive games (fetch, puzzle toys)
  • Socialisation (dog parks, training classes)

Without enough activity, they may develop boredom-related behaviors.

6. How do I groom a Golden Doodle?

Golden Doodles require regular grooming to prevent matting:

  • Brushing: 2-3 times per week
  • Professional grooming: Every 6-8 weeks
  • Ear cleaning: Weekly (to prevent infections)
  • Nail trimming: Monthly

Their coat can be curly, wavy, with varying grooming needs.

7. Are Golden Doodles easy to train?

Yes! Thanks to their high intelligence and eagerness to please, Golden Doodles excel in:

  • Obedience training
  • Potty training
  • Trick training
  • Therapy or service work

Positive reinforcement (treats, praise) works best.

8. What health issues do Golden Doodles face?

Golden Doodles are generally healthy but may inherit conditions such as:

  • Hip dysplasia
  • Eye disorders (e.g., progressive retinal atrophy)
  • Allergies & skin conditions
  • Ear infections (due to floppy ears)
  • Heart conditions (e.g., subvalvular aortic stenosis)
